Southern Area Darts Final Season 3

Rileys, Victoria was the venue once again for the latest Regional Final. Play started at 2.00pm with group games before proceeding to the knock-out phase.
In the quarter finals Leigh Brooks (Market House Inn) defeated Andy Connell (Hope & Anchor) 4-0 with Steven Boyce (Market House Inn) winning by the same scoreline against Gerry Dowd (Hope & Anchor). John Power (Rileys) beat team mate Charlie Brown by a margin of 4-2. The closest quarter final was between Richard Gumble (Rileys) and Mikey Grover (Market House Inn) which went all the way to a deciding leg before Richard came out on top 4-3.
The semi-finals saw Richard running out a 5-3 winner against Leigh. Richard was on top form hitting 4 x 180 during the match, including two in one leg. In the other semi John’s finishing was excellent securing him a 5-1 win over Steven.
With an exciting final in prospect, the question was would Richard’s 180 scoring be enough to stop John’s finishing. Richard raced in to an early 2-0 lead but John doggedly refused to be beaten, thanks to some excellent cover shots, a feature of his play all day, John got himself back into the match – 134 seemed to be his favourite score! Finishing strength came out on top and John ran out a 5-2, picking up £100 and the title, on this form he must stand a very good chance at the National Final.
Congratulations, not just to John but also to Richard, Leigh, Charlie and Gerry who will be joining him at the National Final.
